Mellow Yellow Monday and Ruby Tuesday

You can probably tell by the name of this blog that I collect bees - if not, read my very first post and you'll know all about it.  Sometimes our collections can get a bit out of hand - I recently disposed of several hundred pigs, quite a few carousel horses, some miniature tea sets, and all the Christmas stuff that was in my Winter bedroom.  The bees I am finding homes for outside.  This little fellow graces a low pot of assorted orchids, just to the left of the patio at the back door.  He's a little worse for wear, missing a wing, but he is SO cute!  Every time he catches my eye, I can't help but chuckle.  This shot could also be used for Ruby Tuesday, I see.  It is not unusual to find items with yellow and red together, mainly because yellow is my favorite color, and red is in the top five, and I find the combination of the two very intriguing.  I do have a separate shot for Ruby Tuesday.
This is called a Scarlet Hibiscus, but it differs from regular hibiscus in many ways, the most obvious being that this one grows in water.  Its pot sits in one of our bird baths.  The flowers are HUGE.  The leaves look like something illegal.  It goes dormant in winter although it must be kept in or near water, and then it reblooms in spring.  I planted some of the seeds from this one because I wasn't sure if it would make it through our harsh winter we had last year, and they also grew.  I gave away most of those seedlings.  I got this plant from the native plant nursery, which accounts for its success I guess.  It is breathtakingly beautiful IRL.

Love that flower. It is always a joy to have something return each year in your garden. I will have to look up the IRL. My dad might love one of these plants.
